My wife and I both have Amex Blue cards now on the same account. We had been thinking of buying her a new car and we decided to use the new Amex Blue card to put $5000 down. The dealership would only allow us to put $3000 down on my card. I thought that was it, but then my wife asks the finance manager if we can use a 2nd credit card and he said sure. The dealers limitation is $3000 per card so we put another $2000 down using her card. Between these 2 cards and our usual monthly expenses we hit the $6500 minimum right away.

I always pay off my cards every month and I had this money set aside for the new car purchase so this put us on track to make the most cash back out of our new credit cards. I checked online to see what we made on the 1st $5200 and it is $27. This gave us a return of .5% on our purchase. It doesn’t seem like much, but we should do well by the end of the year considering we are in the next bracket of 5% and 1.5%.

I have been thinking for a while now about getting a new cash rewards credit card. The Amex Blue Cash card looks good and so does the Chase Business rewards card. The Amex Blue Cash card gives you 1% to 5% cash bach on everyday purchases like supermarkets, gas stations and drug stores. There is no annual fee and the interest rate is variable depending upon your credit. Both Amex Blue Cash and Chase Business rewards give you 20 days grace. I am leaving towards the Amex Blue Cash card because it would work out for me in the long run. Spending more than 5k per month on inventory for my store would get me over the $6500 threshold pretty fast and this would get me the 1.5% cash back. The variable interest rate is from 12.49% to 17.49% depending upon your credit.

Your Rebate is awarded annually for each Rebate Year (12 consecutive billing periods). Rebate percentages for each Rebate Year are as follows:

Year to Date Purchases

Cash Back on Everyday Purchases^

Cash Back on All Other Purchases

$0-$6,500

1.0%

0.5%

$6,500.01 or more

5.0%

1.5%

The Chase Business card has a variable APR, currently as low as 17.49%. The Chase Business card gives you $50 dollars cash back after your first purchase. There is no annual fee. They also give you

3% CASH BACK – Earn the most where you spend the most. Your spending habits may change every month, but you’ll still get 3% cash back on your everyday eligible purchases with the Chase Freedom Visa Signature® Card. So even if you spend more on gas, groceries, and movies one month – and drugstores, utilities and department stores the next – you’ll automatically earn 3% cash back in your top 3 everyday spending categories. There are 15 categories in all.

1% CASH BACK on EVERYTHING else. You’ll earn 1% cash back for every $1 you spend on ALL other purchases! Plus, we’ll give you AN EXTRA $50 each time you save and redeem $200 in rewards.

Put yourself in charge of your rewards. Whether you want cash back or points toward travel, gift cards or merchandise, it’s your choice. You can change your rewards without losing a thing.

Just keep in mind that the rewards cards only work if you pay the balances off in full every month. If you don’t pay them off you will eat up your rewards with interest paid on the balance of the card.

I also thought about discover rewards card, but discover isn’t offered everywhere which makes it impossible to charge for some things when you need to. This would also mean that you need to carry more than one card and split rewards between cards.
